Lewicowa ofensywa w Unii Europejskiej
In: Chrześcijaństwo, świat, polityka: zeszyty społecznej myśli Kościoła, Heft 26, S. 89-116
ISSN: 1896-9038
In: Roczniki Nauk Społecznych, Band 14(50), Heft 1, S. 137-157
ISSN: 2544-5812
The article presents a discussion on European universalism, the most important goal of which is to disseminate European values and ideas. Historically, universalism has been accompanied by a tendency towards economic and geopolitical expansion of the Western Europe great powers. The renaissance of European universalism took place along with the processes of European integration. A special condition for the revival of this universalism was, on the one hand, the strategy of left-wing intellectuals related to the rebuilding of political influence under the conditions of European integration. On the other hand, successive European crises provoked Eurosceptic moods, which prompted the pro-European elite to mobilize societies for the benefit of the European Union. The article discusses the latest version of European universalism, which was directed mainly inside the EU in order to counteract disintegration and to base the integration project more closely on European values.
Perception of Polish Democracy in a Comparative Approach in Relation to the European Integration Processes
In: Rocznik Integracji Europejskiej, Heft 14, S. 9-23
The aim of the article is to show the condition of Polish democracy on the example of two elections held in 2019 and 2020. The elections brought about a positive phenomenon for democ racy, which is an increase in voter turnout. On the other hand, negative phenomena appeared, in particular the violent political polarization within the political community. The example of the Polish elections was then confronted with the perception of democracy among Polish society in a comparative approach, i.e. against the perception of other European nations. Against this background, the assessment of Polish democracy by Poles is exceptionally positive. Later in the article, an attempt was made to consider to what extent the integration processes may be responsible for weakening democracy in the Member States, as well as for the decline in trust in democratic institutions in the west and southern part of the continent.
Nation-building oraz nation-preserving w Polsce w dobie transformacji i integracji europejskiej
In: Studia Polityczne, Band 48, Heft 1, S. 99-123
The aim of the article is to show the centuries-old tradition of Polish elites working for nation-building and nation-preserving purposes. It dates back to at least the 18th century. The nation-preserving formula was developed in the 19th century, that is, during the partitions, when the Polish nation did not have its own statehood. In the first part of the article, I describe the specificity of Poles' historical experiences, primarily after the partitions that took place at the end of the 18th century. I try to indicate three main approaches to nation-building (and nation-preserving) activities during this period. In the next part of the article, I try to show that this tradition lasted during the period of political transformation and European integration. While the nation-building approach, related to the reconstruction of sovereign statehood, democracy and a political nation, was dominant in the first case, the nation-preserving policy was observed more often, especially among the right-wing elites, after joining the EU, primarily due to the experiences of subsequent European crises.
Perception of Polish Democracy in a Comparative Approach in Relation to the European Integration Processes ; Postrzeganie polskiej demokracji w ujęciu porównawczym w odniesieniu do procesów integracji europejskiej

Wybory przyniosły pozytywne zjawisko z punktu widzenia jakości demokracji, jakim jest wzrost frekwencji wyborczej. Z drugiej strony pojawiły się negatywne zjawiska, w szczególności gwałtowna polaryzacja polityczna w ramach wspólnoty politycznej. Przykład wyborów w Polsce i postrzeganie demokracji w społeczeństwie polskim zostały pokazane w ujęciu porównawczym, czyli w odniesieniu do percepcji demokracji u innych narodów europejskich.

Pozatraktatowe metody rozwoju integracji: przykład Wspólnej polityki bezpieczeństwa i obrony
In: Studia Polityczne, Band 47, Heft 1, S. 93-112

The future of the euro area – Poland's geo-economic perspective
In: Przegląd europejski, Band 4, S. 13-35
The article presents the discussion about the future of the euro area. The starting point of this analysis is an outline of the main conclusions drawn from the crisis in this area, which began in 2010. Next, the documents regarding future reforms of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), submitted by the European institutions during 2015-2017, will be analysed. Subsequently, the discussion on these proposals among the member states, especially the most influential – France and Germany, is being analysed. The article is aiming at considering the preliminary results of these negotiations and the possible reforms of the euro area. The Author is also wondering whether these reforms can adequately prepare the monetary union for another crisis or even worsening the economic situation in Europe. In this context and in relation to the broader geopolitical situation in 2018, the question is raised whether Poland should mull over joining the EMU. Finally, the geo-economic consequences of entering the EMU or being outside the monetary union will be examined in a situation where the reforms of this area are incomplete and the eurozone seems to be not well prepared for a possible next crisis.
